Sophie Trecker
Sophie Trecker taught for 6 years at PS 116 in Manhattan’s former district 2. She taught kindergarten for 3 years and then looped with her class to first grade where she continued teaching for 3 more years. She was the kindergarten literacy leader and then served as the grade leader in first grade. Sophie has experience developing and implementing balanced literacy and the workshop model of reading and writing. She has mentored teachers in grades K-5 who are new to this model as well as presented workshops to them. Sophie has worked with school districts in New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York. Much of her work focuses on helping teachers launch and implement the reader’s and writer’s workshop, conferring, and planning units of study and minilessons. Sophie has experience working with a variety of children including ELL students and students with special needs; she co-taught in an inclusion kindergarten classroom.
Sophie received a Bachelors of Arts degree in English from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Teachers College of Columbia University.
